While best known for The Pyramids, as the homeland of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, and as the land the Jewish people escaped from in the Bible, Egypt is far more then that and has a deep history some of which (sadly) has been lost to time.
It has also been a popular land for movie makers though nearly all films are either retailing of the Bible story, "historical" fiction, or totally fictional events.
"Historial" Films[]
These are listed in rough correlation with actual history.
- Land of the Pharaohs (1956): fictional account of the Great Pyramid's construction.
- Joseph: King of Dreams (2000): animated musical of the Biblical story of Joseph.
- The Ten Commandments (1956): regarded as the best movie version of the Bible story. The Pharaoh of the story is believed by some to be Ramesses II
- The Egyptian (1954): one of the few films set in the time of the heretical Pharaoh Akhnaton.
- Cleopatra (1953): fictionalization of Cleopatra
