Rapid Strike splits 1 attack into 2, with both at -6 to skill.

It is not possible to do on a Move and Attack, although you can do it on an All-Out Attack which gives 50% move: or 100% move with a Slam as of GURPS Martial Arts

Basics[]

Page 370 of Basic Set: Campaigns discusses it allowing 1 extra attack. It said "You must take an Attack or All-Out Attack maneuver", implying it would not be possible to do on a Move and Attack.

B54 under Extra Attack reiterates only one can be replaced.

B93 under Trained By A Master reiterates it halves the skill penalty, as does Weapon Master later.

Extra Effort in Combat gives Flurry of Blows allowing the penalty to be halved at an expensive 1 FP per attack cost: presumably 2 FP for 2 attacks at -3 (instead of -6) or 3 FP for 3 attacks at -6 (instead of -12) or 4 FP for 4 attacks at -9 (instead of -18)

Not initially clear of FOB's FP halving could stack with TBAM/WM halving.

  • similarly unclear if halved cumulative parrying penalties for fencing stack with weapon master
    • it was probably allowed to stack somewhere in MA but page number is needed

Martial Arts[]

Page 48 of GURPS Martial Arts discusses TBAM as a prerequisite for the new rules on chapter 4 (page 127) for getting more than 1 extra attack.

Pg 66 explicitly says it can be combined with Telegraphic Attack

Pg 98 asserts it is possible with the new All-Out Attack (Long) variation

Pg 107 more explicitly denies Move and Attack:

"Rapid Strike and Combinations aren’t allowed"

Pg 109:

special case of Rapid Strike (p. B370), which makes them compatible with All-Out Attack, Attack, Committed Attack, and Defensive Attack, but not with Move and Attack

Pg 120 compares Rapid Strike with Thrown Weapons to Rapid Fire with Thrown Weapons

Pg 126:

"Committed Attack (Strong) and Rapid Strike"

Pg 127 (top)

"Rapid Strike (p. B370): Unless he took Move and Attack, a warrior can split one of his melee attacks into two attacks with the same weapon or two unarmed attacks"

Pg 127 (middle) gives a new option with increased penalties:

In a cinematic campaign – especially a chambara or wuxia one – the GM may wish to allow more than two attacks with a Rapid Strike

Pg 127 ALSO mentions that GMs can cap extras but that it is self-limiting, and suggests:

"To ensure that only skilled warriors can make large numbers of attacks, simply limit adjusted skill to 12."
    • It is unclear if this suggestion applies to the original basic form of making 2 attacks at -6, as that is even more restrictive than Deceptive Attack which can lower skill to 10: requiring skill 18 instead of skill 12

131 re Flurry of Blows:

"attacks made with a Rapid Strike during an All-Out Attack, Attack, Committed Attack, or Defensive Attack."
