Cost: 15 points

Sealed is an exotic physical advantage that grants complete immunity to corrosive or toxic agents that must touch skin or exposed machinery to work (B82)

http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=79575 mentions protection against Corrosive Attack

Benefits[]

mentioned outside main ability descrip:

  • B74 Payload extends to occupants (ie could buy ally w/ payload to represent vehicle/armor)
  • B110 makes immune to Blood Agent (mentioned under AE not limit, presumed applies to that too)
    • B108 Respiratory Agent strangely does not mention. Blood Agent is meant to include this PLUS non-lung mucous membranes.
  • B111 makes immune to Contact Agent (mentioned under the AE version +150%, not limit, but presumably applies to that too)
    • reason this is same price as Vision-Based despite being more versatile is V-B isn't hindered by Sealed OR the other options which apply to Blood Agent of eye protection: eye protection just gives bonus v VB not absolute defense.

Drawbacks[]

Mentioned outside main ability description:

  • B49 impedes Oxygen Absorption (hard ban could be houseruled as soft: OA just wouldn't work with Sealed active, but could coexist with SWITCHABLE sealed
  • B96 makes impossible to use Vibration Sense
    • P86 Sense of Perception enhancement lets it work despite that.

Gadgets[]

B429 Hazardous Atmospheres mentions:

  • Those with the Sealed advantage are safe;
  • those in sealed suits might be safe, but some gases eat away at seals.

S45 uses it in Dreadnought with limitation Required Disadvantage of Maintenance

  • B192 Environmental Suit skill could be needed to done this if defined as a Gadget
    • perhaps only if Requires IQ roll is used.
      • Since that is per minute, a 1-time roll could be done by applying the IQ roll to Switchable instead, so instead of +10-10=0 it's +10-1=+9
        • a similar approach could be done to represent "don" times: Takes Extra Time as Limited Enhancement on switchable, not the base ability. TET applied to base ability should apply to INSTANT uses only, they don't much limit abilities which can just be left on.
  • P106 Sense-Based Reversed example clarifies it won't work against someone with Sealed. This also implies the ability to smell things is impeded when Sealed is up. As if Temporary Disadvantage: Can't Smell in relation to things outside the sealed 'radius' which is skintight normally, clothingtight with forecfield, and maybe more with AE.
    • This should probably reduce oxygen supply, logically! Except Sealed isn't listed as as stopping Respiratory Attacks implying they work differently from Blood Agent, which is stopped by it and by combined countermeasures to lung/eye attacks. This is a difference between "touches eyeball" vs "eye processes light" and "touches lung" vs "touches nose" vs "gas exchange with lungs" perhaps.

note[]

B262 earth/ice/metal/stone bodies have it, air/fire/water do not

  • b263 machine does not include but many machines have
    • b309 npc C-31 for example
  • b285 notes it being imparted by suits

Pyramid[]

3-60 (Dungeon Fantasy III) pg 27 under Acid Imbued Soul:

"you and anything you are carrying or wearing cannot have its DR reduced by corrosion damage"

The "carrying or wearing" is due to the Force Field enhancement. This also has the Acid Resistant only custom limitation.

Transhuman Space[]

Shell-Tech pg 5 introduces Acid-Resistant for this:

  • "negates the DR-destroying effects of Innate Attacks with the Corrosion type which are defined as using acids"
  • "they may still do regular damage if they penetrate the target’s DR

No amount of DR with Force Field counts as Sealed.
To get the benefits of Sealed, you must buy Sealed.
Classic superhero Force Fields need Sealed with the Force Field modifier, as explained in Powers.
See p. 108 of that book.
If you have a DR 100 force field and not Sealed, then you get DR 100 vs. water jets and corrosion beams that roll damage,
but you get no protection against insidious water damage and rust, because those things aren't resisted by DR but by Sealed.

Klaus replied "Ah, but Force Field stops Contact Agents independently from DR." which did not receive a reply

re Force Field http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.php?p=1037752&postcount=14

unless you also take the Sealed advantage, any area effect that bypasses DR by dint of the Contact Agent enhancement or similar still affects you

also:

to get the sort of comic-book force field that also protects against deadly mists, tiny bugs, etc., you need Sealed as well.
And unless you want your gear to get corroded, coated with poison, or whatever, you might want to consider adding Force Field to that advantage, too.

'tiny bugs' relates to P76 where SM-13 shrinkers are able to enter the orifices of SM0 humans unless they have sealed armor.
