- the rules make it hard to poke people with a spear at reach C already, and to use it to poke people at Reach 1 requires a ready manoeuvre, so if you don't have room to open the distance the rules also make this a thing as well.
- a clever opponent with a large sword (Reach 1,2) might be able to really mess with a spearman by moving range a lot, forcing the latter to either spend a lot of time re-readying their weapon, or into moving a lot more than they want to.
